It is the calcium salt of ascorbic acid, one of the mineral ascorbates with approximately 10% calcium by mass.
• Neutralizing acids in paper and imparting an alkaline reserve of calcium carbonate to the paper, which helps protect it from future damage.
• As a food additive.
• As an anti-caking agent.
• As a colour stabilizer.
• Treating symptoms caused by too much stomach acid such as heartburn, upset stomach, or indigestion.
